Booking FAQ

Who are Verde Clinic?

Verde Clinic is an integrative medicine clinic specialising in the treatment chronic pain, anxiety and insomnia with a multi-modal approach using natural medicine and conventional pharmacotherapy. We are patient-centred and compassionate in our approach. We are brand agnostic and focus upon maximising therapeutic effect while minimising harm and cost to the patient.

Please note that we WA prescribers are prohibited at the WA Health level from prescribing our natural therapies to patients who are

-have a history of psychosis-type illness (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, any form of psychosis)

-pregnant or breastfeeding

Special authorities will be required to prescribe for patients who are registered as having a Drugs of Dependency history or are on a Community Prescription of Opiate Pharmacotherapy (CPOP) program ie. for suboxone, buvidal; these applications and referrals can be arranged, though prescription will not take place in the first consultation.

Patients aged 18-25 can be prescribed non-psychoactive natural medicine forms, or otherwise in low-dose/balanced formulation. This is both an insurance requirement, and also evidence-based given risks and benefits. It has been hypothesised that the introduction of psychoactive forms at younger ages adversely affects patients at younger ages due to acquired damage during the neuroplastic phase.

At present, we do not offer services for patients under the age of 18, though we acknowledge that there is specific benefit of these medicines in some younger patients.

How much does treatment at Verde Clinic cost?

Verde Clinic operates on a fixed-gap basis for all Medicare patients; all patients have a $62 gap applied to their appointments ie. the cost of your consultation is $62 after a Medicare rebate. Your Medicare rebate will be creditted back to you immediately following consultation; it typically should hit your bank account the next business day but may take 2-3 business days.

We will be commencing bulk-billed clinics for our DVA Veterans likely March 2025

Non-Medicare patients will be emailed an invoice which they can take their OSHC for rebates.

Typical annual costs for Verde Clinic with Medicare-insured patients are around $310 out of pocket per year for five consultations

Do you sell/dispense medicines?

Verde Clinic are a medical practice only; we issue prescriptions directly to patients or to a pharmacy/dispensary of their choosing. We are brand-agnostic and our focus is on patient welfare. We do not require a concession card to prescribe “concession medicines”; we believe these should be accessible to all patients.

How much medication am I prescribed?

Verde Clinic doctors will prescribe in accordance with clinical need. Generally, we observe maximum amounts of 500mg/day inhaled and 40mg/day oral intake in keeping with Federal NIIM guidelines. This roughly translates to around 2g/day of dried herb, at maximum. Additionally, WA Health MPRB guidelines require separate authorisation applications where prescribed use exceeds 300mg/day inhaled and 30mg/day oral intake.

In terms of prescription intervals, Verde Clinic generally prescribes 1 month worth of medication at an initial consultation, with planned follow-up after (this can be telehealth or in-person). After this follow-up, patients are generally prescribed for 3 months, with a recommended review interval of 2-3 months. Patients are welcome to re-book earlier if there are any changes or concerns

Please note that consultation is not a guarantee for prescription.

Why can’t you say the C-word (or the other words)?

Verde Clinic prides itself on compliance with Federal and State law, as well as with the authorities that enabled the availability of safe and high quality medicines. As with all aspects of medicine, prescription can carry considerable risk, leading to required regulation of the industry as outlined here

Verde Clinic sounds like the clinic for me, but I am with an Eastern States service. Can I bring my script over for Verde Clinic to assume care?

Yes, we can. Verde Clinic will require an Initial Appointment for all patients to be assessed for suitability, and for their medication to be prescribed. While we do attempt to accommodate our patients’ requests, these do need to be compliant with WA Health Medicines and Poisons Regulatory Branch rules and regulations, as well as Federal TGA rules and regulations. As such, there may be some changes to your therapeutic management; this will be discussed at length with you in consultation.

We will require you to apply for a discharge letter from your previous prescriber prior to your follow-up consultation. This is a WA Health Medicines and Poisons Regulatory Branch requirement, and having a discharge letter from your previous service is considered to be best practice in the management of natural therapies.

Once this letter is obtained, please email to discharge@verdeclinic.com.au

How do I book?

Book via the Healthengine link at the bottom right hand corner of the the page. If you’re attending Verde Clinic for the first time, we require that you attend in person.

I am an existing patient. Do I need to come in person at some point?

Yes. Current best practice, and our insurer, requires that we review patients in person at least annually, and we encourage you to book in-person prior to May 1, 2025, after which we can resume Telehealth services. After May 1, all non-medicare rebateable Telehealth services will cease, and you will require in-person attendance to access Medicare-rebateable telehealth services for the subsequent 12 months.

The same in-person attendance rules applies to DVA patients.

Non-Medicare patients will be charged at the full private rate after May 1; invoices will still be provided

I am a rural or remote patient; I won’t be able to make it to an in-person appointment. Will I still get a Medicare-rebatable consultation?

If your post code falls within a Modified Monash Model (MMM) criteria of between 2-7 based on the tool here, we will be able to offer you a Medicare-rebateable video conference for both initial and follow-up consultations, provided that the indication for your condition relates to mental health. If this applies to you, please email us on info@verdeclinic.com.au identifying your status as a rural patient. Rural and remote patients who attend Verde Clinic in person at least once a year will be managed the same as metropolitan counterparts.

Can Verde Clinic offer non-natural therapies medicine treatment?

Yes, we can. Verde Clinic’s doctors are fellowed general practitioners of the Royal Australasian College of General Practitioners, and we may offer investigation and management appropriate to your presenting complaint. Generally, Verde Clinic doctors will offer multi-modal therapeutic options ie. a mix of non-drug therapies and natural/conventional drug therapies.

Okay, I’ve booked! What happens next?

Thank you for booking! Check your email for a booking confirmation from Healthengine; generally speaking Healthengine will send a booking confirmation. From time to time, due to heavy booking traffic, your booking will exit without confirmation of appointment; this may occur where another patient was competing for the same appointment slot as you at the same time.

Approximately 9am on the day before your booking ie. on the Friday morning if you have a booking on Saturday, you will get a text message asking you to check your email for the “Verde Clinic Secure Message”. This is your onboarding form, or if you are a returning patient, the follow-up form. It is mandatory to complete this prior to attendance of an initial appointment, and we encourage our follow-up patients to complete this prior to attendance to communicate intent.

The onboarding form email will look like this; clicking the link below will take you to a portal where it will ask for your phone number to confirm

While you can fill your onboarding forms on your phone, doing so on a PC or a tablet may be easier.

If you struggle to complete your onboarding forms, attend Verde Clinic an hour earlier than your booked appointment so we can assist you.

If you do not receive the forms, it means that either the booking has failed (check to see if you have a booking confirmation) or that there has been an error in entering your phone or email details. Come in an hour early so we can fix this together.

What do I need to bring for my in-person appointment?

Please bring your photo ID, Medicare Card and DVA card/associated documents and ensure your Verde Clinic Secure Message onboarding form has been completed. If you do not have Medicare, please supply us with your IHI number on the day of apointment.

The onboarding forms are sent to sent to your email 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment. IMPORTANT! If you have not completed your paperwork, the doctor cannot see you.

*For our techno-frustrated friends who cannot complete their forms at home, please come in an hour prior to your appointment time; we have tablets at the clinic and humans to assist you with the onboarding paperwork.

Where are you located?

Our clinic is located at 135 Dunedin Street in Mount Hawthorn, Western Australia. You can look for a Verde Clinic sign next to the front door of our building, and ramps with white handrails.

What do you treat?

Verde Clinic sees patients for anxiety, chronic pain and/or insomnia that has lasted longer than 6 months and management with conventional treatment has been unsuccessful or not tolerated. Verde Clinic has a no-exceptions minimum age policy of 25 for specific psycho-active natural medicine forms; we can prescribe other ECS-active forms for patients over 18.

Please see our New Patient page for more information about becoming a patient.

Where do I park?

There is a free four-hour car park right across the street from the clinic on Dunedin Street behind Pirate Bar. There is also street parking.

What kind of payment do you accept?

Please be sure that you have completed the payment online through Tyro prior to your appointment. We do not accept payment at the clinic.

How quickly will I get my Medicare rebate?

Please allow 3-5 business days following your appointment for the rebate to transfer to your account, although it may take less time.

I don’t have Medicare, do I get an invoice that I can send to my private insurer?

Yes, this will be emailed to you at the end of the appointment.

Do you take walk-ins?

We regret that due to a tight schedule, all appointments must be scheduled beforehand. We do not accept walk in appointments. You can book via the Healthengine button on the verdeclinic.com.au home page

I need to cancel my appointment – can I rebook?

Yes. If you contact at least 24 hours prior we can rebook your appointment. No-shows will not be eligible for refund or rebook.

I have not received a booking confirmation email, do I still have an appointment?

If there is no confirmation email, it is likely that your booking has not taken place. Where failed bookings take place, Healthenging/Tyro may place a hold or “pending transaction” on your card. This amount is not paid to Verde Clinic, and Verde Clinic is unable to refund these amounts; they should be refunded to you in five business days. Feel free to re-book if this occurs

I’m sick – should I still come to my appointment?

No. If you are sick, including symptoms like fever and cough, please do not come to your in person appointment. This is in part because a substantial part of our patient cohort may be battling a variety of conditions that leaves them immunocompromised. Therefore, if you are sick please rebook or contact us at info@verdeclinic.com.au for options.

Do you do telehealth?

Yes, we have telehealth options available for follow up appointments as well as video conference for rural and remote patients. However, we do NOT want to operate a service where we send you scripts without caring. If this doesn’t work for you, you might not be compatible with our clinic’s philosophy. With this in mind, we do require occasional in-person visits to ensure you’re getting the best care possible.

When are you open?

For our in-person appointments, the clinic is open from 9am – 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays starting 15 February. We will be closed 22/23 February as well as 8/9 March. Follow up telehealth appointments can be scheduled during the week.

What will my appointment be like?

Your appointment will be 20 minutes in a private consultation room with lots of natural light. We keep the tone conversational; in order to do that, we use dictation software called Silknote to capture all the details of your appointment. (For more information about Silknote visit silknote.com.au). Your doctor will take a detailed history and will endeavour to be both empathetic and understanding. Completing the onboarding forms allows the doctor to gain insight into your condition rapidly, and focus upon the more human aspects of practicing medicine

It is imperative that you complete all of your onboarding forms before your appointment. This allows the doctor to delve deeper during your session.

Isn’t this the house that blew up in August 2023?
